I grew up in a musical household. My mother played the violin and sung opera and my sister took piano lessons from a young age. I started playing music in the second grade when I began taking piano lessons.

I have been playing classical piano since then, and eventually learned to play jazz in high school after taking lessons from Bill Augustine. I also played clarinet, saxophone, and percussion in elementary, middle, and high school bands.

In high school, I joined the marching band as the keyboardist and by the next year I was the drum major. I also marched bass drum in the indoor drum line. And, by my senior year of high school, I was the principle percussionist for the band and orchestra.

After high school, I attended Berklee College of Music where I studied Music Education.
